Filing for Unemployment Insurance in New York State.

With businesses closing down because of coronavirus, many New Yorkers will be filing for unemployment insurance.

Anticipating a huge influx, the State Department of Labor has a new filing system based on the first letter of your last name.

People with a last name that begins with A-F should file for benefits on Mondays. G-N will file on Tuesday. O-Z on Wednesday.

If you missed your day, you should file on Thursday or Friday.

Elmira Heights Central School District

ALERT: Please share to all of our Heights families. We are in this together everyone, and we need to support each other as much as possible. Here is a way we hope to ease the burden on our community while our students are dismissed:

Pre-packaged breakfast and lunch will be available during closure beginning Tuesday March 17, 2020 @ the elementary entrance of Cohen Elementary School. This will be a curbside pick-up. Access will not be allowed into the building. Children who are enrolled in the district, along with their siblings, that reside in the same household are eligible to participate.

Distribution time will be 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Please provide your child’s teacher with a note Monday stating if you are interested in participating.

For families who are in need of a box of food to help supplement meals for 2 – 3 days please contact the cafeteria office at 733-5854. We are working with the Southern Tier Food Bank to have these items delivered.
